Tideswell United 5
BOTH sides went for an early goal, with Steve Shippam and John Stanway equal to everything thrown at them. Liam Stuart had the best opportunity but his shot flew over the United crossbar.
Whyatt’s free-kick from the edge of the area rebounded off Shippam’s right-hand post and across the goal-line.
Stanway denied Dan Lukic from the penalty spot after Dickens was dumped to the floor by a rash challenge from Liam Robinson, and Brampton’s day got worse minutes later when Hopkins’ cross was headed home by Whyatt to double United’s lead.
The visitors added a third ten minutes before the interval when another Hopkins cross was volleyed home by Damian Wray.
Brampton lay siege to the United goal at the start of the second half but could not find a way past an inspired Stanway, while debutants Torr and Barton acquitted themselves superbly alongside Swanson and Robinson.
Lukic’s hard work down the flank paid dividends on 65 minutes as his dangerous cross was turned into the net to give the hosts a way back into the match.
With 20 minutes remaining Wray added probably the best goal of his career as Whyatt fed the big man who hit a stunning volley into the top corner.
On the stroke of full-time, debutant full-back James Barton appeared at the back post to tap home after excellent work from Nick Wilson to seal another high-scoring win for the Sawyeds.
