Great eight as young Bucks find their shooting boots

Buxton Under-19s 8, Sandiacre Under-19s 0

BUXTON Under-19s warmed up for next week’s visit of derby rivals Matlock Town with a comprehensive 8-0 win at home to Sandiacre on Wednesday evening.

The Young Bucks started the game with pace and opened the scoring after 20 minutes when some hard work and persistence saw Gipu Felix-George break through, the midfielder making no mistake as he rounded the keeper.

Felix-George then found space to double Buxton’s advantage as Sandiacre struggled to break out of their own half.

Sandiacre did create a couple of chances but nothing to trouble Arron Dixon in goal.

Buxton went close to scoring on numerous occasions as Johnson and Ollernshaw were allowed space to venture forward and whip dangerous crosses into the box.

The third goal inevitably arrived before half-time as Hopkins pulled the ball into the middle and the cross was met by Daniel Gilbride who calmly placed his shot beyond the keeper.

Buxton remained in control in the second half, with Sandiacre struggling to cope with the midfield dominance of Barton and Heywood.

With 20 minutes of the half gone Heywood got himself on the scoresheet with the pick of the evening’s goals, a sublime volley from the edge of the box.

The young Bucks then proceeded to score four more in a 15-minute spell. Cameron Higginbottom netted his first goal of the season after some neat footwork in the box, before Alex Airey came off the bench to grab an impressive brace.

Ballington rounded off the scoring as he found space in the box before clinically dispatching the ball past the Sandiacre keeper.

Felix-George and Airey went close to completing their hat-tricks, but to their credit Sandiacre worked tirelessly to prevent any further goals.

Next up for Buxton is the visit of local rivals Matlock Town U19s to the Silverlands on Tuesday November 20 (kick-off 7.45pm).
