Glossop North End romped to a huge 8-0 win at Stockport Sports on Tuesday night.
GNE put a dishevelled Stockport side to the sword, with strikers Tom Bailey and Jason Carey both helping themselves to a hat-trick.
Only a fine performance by Sports’ goalkeeper Michael Smith kept the score out of double figures.
The home side had lost their manager the day before, and it showed.
They were utterly disorganised and whilst showing flashes of spirit, particularly in that they kept going until the very final whistle, it was a very comfortable night for the North End defence, securing their tenth clean sheet in 15 games.
The goal rush started on 19 minutes when Blackshaw crossed from the left and defender Robinson could only turn the dangerous centre into his own net.
Glossop were creating chances at will, with only Smith denying them until the 31st minute when Bailey netted from Carey’s header.
Bailey completed a ten minute hat-trick by netting a penalty on 34 minutes after Kieran Lugsden was felled, and then tapping in an Eddie Moran cross in the 40th.
Carey made it 5-0 by half time, running onto Moran’s clever through ball and rounding the ‘keeper to score.
The second half saw more of an onslaught and North End took the chance to rest a couple of players, with Emini Adegbenro coming on for his debut at half-time.
It made no difference to the momentum of the game.
The goals again began in the 64th minute when Bailey’s low cross was tapped in by Carey at the far post.
Bailey was again provider four minutes later, threading a lovely ball for Adegbenro to run onto.
The speedy winger still had plenty to do, but finished with aplomb.
North End continued to pepper the Sports goal, Carey spurning a glorious chance for his hat-trick when scooping over from six yards.
However, he was not to be denied in the first minute of injury time when Adegbenro passed across the edge of the box and Carey swept a shot into the corner completing an 8-0 away win that had North End statisticians scurrying for the record books.
A sterner test awaits on Saturday, when the team travel to Chorley in the FA Cup second qualifying round.
