BUXTON Town set up a mouth-watering clash at league leaders Dove Holes after this comfortable victory against a spirited Furness Vale side.
The Town back four of Mirams, Ball, Mallaband and Ollerenshaw dealt well with the wet and windy conditions as the hosts controlled the game.
Furness worked hard in the first half with Pat O’Brien very lively, while Nick Wood was always a threat, but Town broke the deadlock in the ninth minute when Josh Greaves delivered a superb cross from the right which was met by a diving header from Joe Burgess which gave Stuart Lumbert no chance.
Jace Broome was having an excellent game for Town, while Jack Grindey was once again the main man.
In the second period Town looked to kill the game off, but were met with solid defending and good workrate from Furness.
A Broome corner saw Colin Moss head inches wide before Chris Gartside was forced to push a long-range Furness shot over the bar.
Town were then denied a penalty as Lumbert sent Burgess tumbling in the area, but the referee adjudged the foul had taken place outside the box and Lumbert escaped with a caution.
The second Town goal came in the 56th minute when Burgess finished well, and the third arrived shortly after from a quick Moss free-kick.
Moss went close with another header as he met Steven Young’s corner, before Moss turned provider to pick out Lee Smith who met the ball with an excellent finish.
Ryan Haworth fired a shot wide and Grindey saw his effort blocked.
