Glossop North End’s terrific 22-match unbeaten run was brought to a crashing halt on Tuesday night, with defeat at Bootle.

Chris Willcock’s side headed to Merseyside defending a streak that dated back to November 26.

They made the perfect start against Bootle, as Nathan Byrne opened the scoring just past the quarter-of-an-hour mark.

The Hillmen couldn’t take that advantage into the interval however, and Daniel O’Connor capitalised on a defensive mistake to level scores on 42 minutes.

Just minutes after the re-start the hosts took the lead through Tom Peterson’s spot-kick.

Glossop then tried all they could to muster an equaliser but five minutes from time Billy Smart tapped in a third to end the historic run.

On Saturday, GNE host relegation-threatened Alsager Town.

Later this month they contest the Derbyshire Senior Cup Final against Ilkeston.

That game takes place on Tuesday April 29 at Alfreton FC.
