North West Counties League Premier Division: Glossop North End 2, AFC Silsden 0

SECOND-HALF goals from Ben Connolly and Alex Elliott secured Glossop all three points against Silsden on Saturday.

Reserve team goalkeeper Ashley Hall - drafted in as a replacement for the injured Ben Proctor - was rarely troubled in the first period, while Dean McGregor failed to hit the target on three separate occasions as good positions were carved out.

The front line of Connolly, McGregor, Marshall and the again impressive Battersby ran the channels and found space beyond the Silsden defence on several occasions.

Alex Elliott’s move to central midfield allowed him and Adam Oakes to combine and spray passes forward, and again skipper Lugsden held the back line together ably to protect the rookie keeper during a goalless first 45 minutes.

Battersby muscled his way into the thick of it whenever possible and Marshall and Connolly swapped wings to pose a different threat.

Elliott and Battersby had chances to break the deadlock, before Silsden were reduced to ten men on the hour mark after Holmes was shown a straight red card following a reckless challenge.

Ten minutes later, and after a fine flowing move, Connolly was found in the box to calmly open the scoring.

In the final moments, and seconds after a rare Silsden attack had resulted in a goal-line clearance, Dean McGregor surged forward only for Battersby to miscue in front of goal, but Elliott was there to guarantee all three points.
