Rampant Furness Vale raced to their biggest win yet to extend their 100% record at the top of the Hope Valley League’s Premier Division.
Vale demolished AFC Dronfield 10-1, away from home, to make it eight unblemished matches and a goal-difference of plus-31. The win took them three points clear of second-placed Bradwell, who have also yet to drop a point.
The only other match to be played in the top flight saw bottom-of-the-table Railway share a 3-3 draw with fellow strugglers Hathersage. It was the home team’s fourth draw of the campaign. although they still await that elusive first win.
Several Hope Valley League sides were involved in the Second Round of the Derbyshire FA Junior County Cup, with pride of place going to Dronfield Old Boys. The A Division leaders, who have won all of their matches so far this term, romped to a 10-0 victory away to Bakewell Manners, who play a division below them.
A keenly-contested clash between two high-flying teams who sit just below Dronfield in the A Division table, resulted in a 2-1 win for Baslow at home to Buxton Town.
But Blazing Rag, the team on the heels of that pair, suffered a surprise 7-4 defeat at home to Bradwell Reserves, who are going well in the B Division.
There was no such upset at Calver where Youlgrave United made their divisional superiority count with a comfortable 6-1 victory. And there were similarly easy passages to the next round for Town A, who hammered Edale 8-0, and Dronfield Woodhoouse, who disposed of Tintwhistle Athletic Reserves to the tune of 7-1.
Meanwhile Stoney Middleton’s hopes of cup glory were dashed in a 5-2 defeat at home to Tansley Juniors.
