New Mills AFC’s youth team reached the final of the North West Youth Alliance Open Cup with a single-goal victory after a hard-fought and close encounter with Northwich Victoria on Sunday.
The Millers started well, moving the ball quickly and creating space, and were rewarded when Tom Webb latched onto a through ball and dispatched his shot, lashing it home from 20 yards.
The second half was a less entertaining affair with lots of free-kicks as both teams cancelled each other out.
New Mills did create three half chances in the last ten minutes but were not able to convert.
Excellent performances came from Jack Benson at left-back and Lee Gregory in centre midfield, with a special mention for Kieran Burywood who played well out of position in holding midfield.
FC United play Mossley in the other semi-final this weekend.
