Buxton Spartans U14’s sealed a 5-2 win at Hasland Community U14 on Sunday to retain their position at the top of the table.
They found themselves one down within the first two minutes as Hasland poached the first goal of the game.
An accurate Jake Hodgson header from George Wilmott’s cross gave Buxton the equaliser.
Alex Fletcher Clifford, Harry Satur, Jack Edwards and Kieran Parker were kept busy as the home side looked for a second.
Hodgson struck sweetly giving Buxton the lead for the first time in the game.
Will Slack got Buxton’s third, running from his own half and slotting the ball calmly passed the Hasland keeper.
Hasland grew in confidence as they pulled a goal back, before Buxton’s Matt Baker let rip with a screamer which narowlly went wide before half time.
Callum Bradd, Curtis Lynch and Oscar Tilley were introduced in the second half giving Buxton fresh legs and a renewed vigour.
And they went 4-2 ahead when Slack rounded the Hasland keeper to increase the lead.
Buxton managed another goal from a lovely passing movement, assisted by Kai Gilbride and slotted home by Lynch.
Edwards continued to stand strong on the left hand side of the Spartans defence as Hasland threw everything at Buxton in what were horrendous conditions.
The final whistle blew meaning that Buxton retained their position at the top of the table with a deserved 5-2 win.
