Buxton chairman Dave Hopkins says the upcoming Liverpool Legends clash will be a day to remember for all associated with Buxton.

Hopkins helped masterminded the fixture after meeting up with Kop legend Phil Neal, who has agreed to bring a team full of former Liverpool stars to the Silverlands on July 19.

The game follows on from a similar occasion two years ago when the Bucks staged a pre-season fixture against a team of Manchester United legends that drew a big crowd.

Hopkins says that he is hopeful this match will be a similarly memorable day.

He said: “With the success of the Manchester United one we had a few years ago, me and Phil have a mutual friend so we were at dinner one night when I asked him if he fancied it.

“Although most people will remember Phil for his time at Liverpool, he has got a connection to lower-league football and always wants to do his bit.

“We were going to do it a little while ago but probably didn’t give it enough notice so thought we should do it as a kick-off to the new season and hopefully it will work out really well.”

The fixture against the Kop Legends will be the main event in a day of activities aimed at getting all the family involved.

The likes of Jan Molby, Jason McAteer and John Aldridge have already agreed to take part against a side of Bucks’ legends including the likes of Andy Warrington and current Silverlands boss Martin McIntosh.

Hopkins added: “Gates open at 12pm and we’ve got a kids team playing on the pitch beforehand.

“We wanted it to be a fun day for the whole family with obviously the big event being the Legends match at 2pm..

“It should be a great day.

“We’ve also got Chesterfield here and also some other good games against Alfreton, Glossop North End and Sheffield United’s youth team so it’s a good mixture of games.”
