Buxton face Blue Square Bet Premier high-flyers Grimsby Town in FA Trophy

BUXTON FC face a tough trip to Blue Square Bet Premier side Grimsby Town in the FA Carlsberg Trophy first round proper.

The Bucks’ reward for beating Stamford AFC 2-0 at the weekend is an away tie at Blundell Park on Saturday November 24 (kick-off 3pm).

It will be the Silverlands side’s first appearance in the first round proper for more than 20 years.

Buxton FC chairman Tony Tomlinson said: “It’s an absolute cracker of a draw, and I’m sure our people will turn out in force to support us against a club which ten years ago was playing in the second-tier of English football.”

Opponents Grimsby, jointly-managed by Rob Scott and Paul Hurst, are currently riding high in the Blue Square Bet Premier in second spot. The Mariners’ 100-year stay in the Football League came to an end in 2010.

Notable past managers include Bill Shankly OBE and ex-Buxton boss Nicky Law.
