Last week Bucks manager Gary Hayward told the Advertiser that - no matter whether the 2020-21 season is scrapped or not - the nucleus of the team will remain at the Tarmac Silverlands Stadium next season.

This is because of many of the players being on two-year deals or having options for a second year if the club wishes.

And that suits the chairman, after seeing his side climb to third in the Northern Premier League table with games in hand before action was halted.

"In the league I think we certainly got into a really rich vein of form and were heading towards the top of the table," Mr Hopkins said.

"But I'm very happy with the squad at the moments, they're a good set of lads and they seem to enjoy being at the football club.

"They certainly get on very well with the management team and hopefully, sooner or later, we'll be back entertaining the fans.

"I think we've got a nice mix, some young up and coming talent like Warren Clarke and one or two other ones mixed with (ex-Leeds United defender Matt) Kilgallon, who would be the standout experienced player, and Josh Granite, the captain.

"They're our senior pros, they're very experienced and there's a nice mix.

"It's a good dressing room. A bit of banter goes on but when they go across that line they know what's expected of them."
