Buxton recorded a confidence-boosting victory over Leek Town in their final friendly last weekend.
There were plenty of positives for Martin McIntosh’s side; a win to end pre-season, a fully fit squad and the signing of five more players to complement an already strong-looking side.
Steve Istead and Jonathan Williams both notched strikes in the first half to give the Bucks a 2-0 lead.
Just after the re-start the hosts netted a third goal, when the bandaged head of centre-half Greg Young steered home.
At 3-0 up McIntosh’s men appeared to be home and dry but Leek, of the Evo-Stik First Division South, were far from done.
The visitors stuck to the task and pulled a goal back through Ash Jackson just before the hour mark.
A couple of minutes later the deficit was reduced furthermore as Liam Shotton fired home.
Buxton then stepped up to restore a two-goal advantage as Shaun Tuton made it 4-2 in stoppage time.
The former Matlock man hit a simple tap-in from point blank range in a crowded box, for his third strike of pre-season.
After the game the Bucks announced that goalkeepers Arron Jameson and David Reay had signed terms for next season, alongside midfielders Josh Davies and Alastair Taylor and young striker James Handley.
Bucks: Jameson, Stevens, Green, Istead, Palmer, Young, Williams, Niven, Tuton, Hardy, King.
