Five of the six goals came in a frantic first-half with the Bucks 3-2 down at the break before being caught on the counter late on.

Worksop opened the scoring just three minutes in when an uncharacteristic error from Andy Warrington resulted in a tap-in for Tom Denton, who pounced on a spilled shot by the Bucks’ stopper.

The home side recovered and were soon level within five minutes as a Craig King waltzed inside and found Leon Osborne, who slotted home his second in as many games.

A frantic start continued when Ash Palmer pulled Leon Mettam inside the box and gave away a rash penalty.

Mettam stepped up and confidently made it 2-1 with just ten minutes on the clock.

Slack defending was to blame again when the visitors doubled their advantage, this time Denton sliding the ball home after a cross was whipped into the area.

Warrington then pulled off a terrific save to deny an almost-certain fourth goal.

Buxton were denied a valid claim for a penalty as the interval approached, with Osborne going down inside the area after being sandwiched by two Worksop defenders.

The former Bradford man soon recovered and he bundled the ball home to reduce the deficit just as half-time approached.

One worry for Martin McIntosh was the withdrawal of Jamie Green, who was replaced by Charlie Johnson after he sustained a heavy knock on the byline.

The second-half saw the Bucks pepper Worksop’s goal in search of an equaliser.

King, who had impressed against his former side, saw a drilled effort blocked by a defender.

Luke Dean then drilled an effort over before Warrington again pulled off a vital stop.

Lee Morris, back from his three-game ban, was then through on goal but Ben Hallam raced out to smother his effort.

Buxton made a late push for the third goal and a speculative overhead kick in the area was somehow cleared off the line.

With the clock ticking down King’s speculative drive was spilled by Hallam but Worksop managed to feed the ball up-field to Shaq McKenzie who out-paced the tiring defence and flashed across for Connor Higginson to bundle home the fourth goal.
