Bucks go seventh with win over Celtic

Buxton secured their fourth away win of the season on Tuesday night as they won 1-0 at struggling Stalybridge Celtic.

The result leaves the Bucks seventh in the Evo-Stik Premier, two points behind the play-off places as the table begins to take shape.

Liam Hardy was Buxton’s matchwinner once again on a horrid night weather-wise, his 34th minute goal the difference.

After Celtic hit the post early on, Buxton then did similar when Greg Abbott’s curled effort glanced off the woodwork.

Curtis Morrison was then the third player to be denied by the woodwork just 15 minutes in.

The winning goal came when Luke Hinsley flicked on and Hardy ran through to go around the goalkeeper and slot the ball home.

Morrison saw a shot saved before the break while Celtic nearly got level with a triple opportunity to score, Budtz saving one effort and Josh Meade blocking another before a third effort was blazed over the top.

After the break Greg Young missed agreat chance as he headed wide, the match seeing fewer chances develop as the weather took hold.

Pressure from Stalybridge was well soaked up by the Bucks and they held out to take the points.

Next up is the visit of Chasetown in the FA Cup on Saturday.
