Basement sides to clash in six-pointer

BUXTON FC face the first of several six-pointers on Saturday when they pay a visit to bottom club Burscough (kick-off 3pm).

Supporters intending to travel should note that the hosts are now back at their own ground in Burscough, after their half season of sharing at Skelmersdale United.

Prior to last week’s match at Chester, Buxton manager Martin McIntosh made further changes to his playing staff. James Baxendale’s loan spell has ended and he has now returned to Doncaster Rovers, while Adam Billard, anxious to find a club where he would be first-choice goalkeeper, has been released at his own request.

His immediate replacement is returning teenager Tom Turner, who has recently been with Belper Town, but who started the season at the Silverlands.

Centre-back Adie Hawes, who has been signed initially on a month’s loan from Alfreton Town, joined Nicky Law’s club last summer from Eastwood Town with whom he had spent the previous season after making his name with Hucknall Town.

Centre midfielder Steve Istead has joined the Bucks for the rest of the season after securing his release from Eastwood Town.

In 2010/11 he made 44 first team appearances for Mansfield Town, but Silverlands watchers will remember him best for his time with the successful Ilkeston Town team which won promotion to the Conference North under David Holdsworth a few seasons ago.

He had previous experience playing in Scotland.

There have been several further changes to the club’s end of season fixture list.

The Bradford Park Avenue away match, originally scheduled for March 12, was briefly moved to March 19 but is now back to its original date.

The re-arranged home fixture against Kendal Town has been brought forward one day to Tuesday April 17.
