Evo-Stik Premier Division
Buxton FC 0
North Ferriby United 0
IT WAS billed as a clash of the titans, but it will be remembered more as a match that time forgot for the spectators.
Last Wednesday’s meeting of two of the league’s top sides failed to set the world alight, but the result was perhaps fair for both teams ravaged by injuries.
During a first half of little note, it was Kyle Hadley who had an early sight at goal for North Ferriby following a blistering run through midfield, but his shot on goal was weak and failed to trouble Scott Hartley. A similar opportunity arose at the other end for Kieran Lugsden, who beat his man before spraying the ball wide to Josh Wilde. The full back fired in a pin-point cross which was headed straight at the keeper by Michael Towey.
Then Adam Nicklin fumbled a James Askey cross, with Steve Ridley shooting wide after the ball was laid back by Mark Reed. A Peter Davidson header and a low Askey shot brought the first 45 minutes to a close.
Askey, who put in a good shift for the Bucks, was again among the action after the break, receiving a pass from Steve Ridley and then striking a powerful shot from a tight angle which forced an equally-good save from Nicklin.
A few hairy moments followed for Buxton, with captain Gregg Anderson injured during a goalmouth scramble, Grant Black clearing a Hadley shot off the line and Anderson charging down another effort seconds later.
A single goal looked enough to win the match, and the Bucks almost had a glorious chance to seal all three points when Mark Reed looked to have been brought down by Nicklin in the area, but the referee waved play on - much to the dismay of the supporters and club officials.
