A night to forget as Bucks left all at sea

Evo-Stik Premier Division: Buxton 0, Marine 4

THE performance against Marine will be one Buxton will not want to repeat after losing 4-0 at home on Wednesday night.

Two goals in the dying minutes of the game may have slightly flattered the visitors Marine, but the result had never really looked in doubt after the first goal, scored after 19 minutes.

A fantastic curling effort into the top left-hand corner of the net from the edge of the box saw Arron Rey open the scoring. His effort appeared to be goal-bound as soon as he had struck the ball - giving Scott Hartley no chance.

Marine keeper Ryan McMahon made an excellent save from David Taylor’s long-range effort but Hartley continued to be the busier of the two keepers.

The visitors piled on the pressure just before the break forcing a number of corners.

Buxton manager John Reed made two changes at half-time taking off both the wide players Martin Pembleton and Taylor and replacing them with Kyle Hadley and Sam Johnson.

With only one goal separating the teams, Buxton had chances to get back into the match and started the second half brighter but struggled to break down the stubborn Marine defence.

Buxton had a bright ten-minute spell, midway through the second half, with Steve Ridley, Charlie Johnson and Chris Ovington going close but the visitors quickly put the game beyond Buxton by scoring their second.

A cross from Paul Lundon was met by Thomas Moore’s diving header to make it 2-0 on 78 minutes.

Striker Neil Harvey started and finished the move in the 90th minute to make it three, before chipping the ball over Hartley to make it four deep into injury time.
