A strong bowling and batting performance saw Buxton 1st XI pick up only their third league win of the season on Saturday against visiting High Lane.
After winning the toss electing to field, the Bucks got off to a flying start with Hill dispatching of one of the High Lane openers in his first over, with the help of a catch behind the stumps from Cafferky.
Whitney and Barlow quickly settled but their 50 partnership was cut short when Barlow (31) spooned the ball straight into the hands of J Frohwien off Hill’s bowling.
Then MacKenzie took his first wicket of the day with a good moving catch from Budd.
Before Buxton’s opponents could reach 100,in-form Hill struck again thanks to an unorthodox one-handed catch from S Betts.
MacKenzie’s second wicket came via a plumb LBW, and with a fine catch from Cafferky behind the sticks MacKenzie attributed another wicket to his name.
High Lane tried to increase their score with some cheeky singles and fantastic blows to the boundary, however Cafferky took his third catch of the day to give Hill his fifth wicket.
MacKenzie claimed his fourth and fifth victims in the space of two overs to wrap things up as High Lane were dismissed for 145.
With nothing to lose, High Lane deployed a fierce bowling attack and Eiselt claimed the wicket of Whitmore early on. Skipper Poole joined T Griffin at the crease and the pair pushed on until Poole (26) was bowled by Hazzard.
The young pairing of Griffin and J Frohwien hit some lovely classical shots between them as the score reached 118, but Frohwien (35) ended the strong partnership when he was caught off Hazzard’s bowling. T Griffin (43) soon followed after a fine innings, but Dowland and Cafferky knocked off the remaining runs with six overs to spare.
