The Chapel-en-le-Frith boxer has fond memories of fighting in Buxton, where he claimed the WBC Cruiserweight Silver Youth Title in October in front of a packed out crowd.

The experience has stayed with the 22-year-old over the winter months and has spurred him on outside the ring ahead of another provisional title fight on Saturday, April 23.

He’s yet to know his opponent on the night but cruiserweight Massey, looking for a tenth consecutive win, feels he’s in a place where he can take anyone on, on home soil.

“I’m doing what I should be doing in the gym and I’m ready to fight anyone to be honest,” he said. “Fans can expect another ten round fight.

“I have good memories there from October. That was the first one at the Dome and it was amazing. The fan base was very strong that night.

“I can’t wait. The experience, I sold just under 800 tickets, was great and all those fans coming to watch me was unbelievable. The level of support was great.”

After beating Gogita Gorgiladze for the youth belt, Massey took time out as he underwent a small operation on his hand but has been back training since the start of the year.

“Straight after New Year I was back in the gym,” he said. “Getting myself ready for this fight and getting myself fit. I’m fit now and pretty much ready to fight now.

“It’s only seven weeks off. We tend to do an eight-week training camp for the fight. I’ve been ticking over since the New Year and it’s just little things now.”

Massey has been training with strength and conditioning coach, Jonathan Reynolds, who has worked with heavyweight Anthony Joshua, among other top athletes.

“I’ve got a new strength and conditioning coach who was working with me last week at the Etihad in Manchester,” said Massey.

“He’s been great to work with. I’ve heard good things about him. He trains a lot of top athletes, not just boxers, he works with professional footballers too.

“I’ve just started sparring this week. My fitness is there to be honest, just working on the boxing side and strength and conditioning.”

Jack ‘One Smack’ Massey’s record in the ring speaks for itself over the past three years, winning all nine of his fights - four by knock-outs or technical knock-outs and five on points. As well as the Dome, he has fought at the De Vere Whites Hotel in Bolton, Blackpool’s Winter Gardens, Manchester Arena and Victoria Warehouse in Manchester.

- Tickets for Massey’s next fight at the Dome on April 23 are priced at £35 and £60. Call 07549 236312 for details.
