After last week’s rain, Disley Cricket Club’s senior sides returned to action with mixed results in the Meller Braggins Cheshire Cricket League.

While the 1st XI were humbled at Cheadle Hulme Ladybridge, the 2nd XI produced a fine display to topple Aston.

Fifteen-year-old Ed O’Connor struck a composed half century, but the star of the show was Sri Lankan Madusha Wettasinghe, adding to his 26-ball 44 with 7-16, including a remarkable all-bowled hat-trick.

The under-15s finished fourth in their league after a seven-wicket win over Bowdon, with Alex Dyson to the fore. After his 3-20 helped limit the visitors to 115, he then anchored the chase with an unflustered 38 not out, while George Noon reached the retirement mark of 40 not out.

Impressive batting from Jake Lloyd couldn’t stop the under-13s finishing their season with a narrow defeat at Northwich, and there was a thrilling friendly on Sunday afternoon as nerveless death bowling from Stewart Reynolds (3-28) saw the Rams beat Grimsargh by five runs.
