Disley openers Clarke and Bridge lead survival fight

Disley’s fight for survival in the Meller Braggins Cheshire Cricket League received a massive boost with a resounding ten-wicket win over Bowdon Vale.

Aggressive seam bowling from Jake Reynolds (3-22) and James Banner (4-22) helped dismiss Vale for just 90 inside 26 overs. Despite recent batting frailties, the reply was emphatic, openers Andrew Clarke (67 not out) and David Bridge (24 not out) taking Disley home without loss with a 93-run stand.

Sadly the weather saw the reverse fixture between the 2nd XIs abandoned, but there was Sunday action with a friendly at Warrington-based Appleton.

Unfortunately, a Disley XI made up almost exclusively of juniors found themselves out of their depth as the experienced hosts mercilessly plundered 228-3.

Disley reached 60-0 in reply, with Ed Clark (38) and Toby Carson (26) going well, but the wheels fell off to finish on 118 all out.
