DERBYSHIRE’S Usman Khawaja in anticipating fierce opposition from his compatriots as Australia A visit the County Ground for a three day fixture today (Friday).

While the Australians - who could select up to nine full internationals - are aiming to stake a claim ahead of an Ashes summer in 2013, table-topping Derbyshire are looking for crucial preparation as the business end of the LV= County Championship season approaches.

“They are a very good team,” said Khawaja. “They’ve got a strong batting line-up and an equally strong set of bowlers, so it’s going to be a good contest and it’ll be interesting to see how things go.

“They’ll be coming in hard at us as is always the case in A tour cricket where players give it everything they’ve got.”

Play at the County Ground starts at 11am.
