Slater refuses to give up fight

Another determined and aggressive bowling spell by skipper Andrew Slater nearly won Buxton an unlikely victory on Saturday against Cutthorpe Seconds.

Batting first on a soft and slow wicket, Buxton progressed to 90 for 3 thanks to an aggressive innings from Max Bartholomew, whose 36 included four large sixes.

But poor middle order batting against mediocre bowling saw Buxton give their wickets away.

They collapsed to 114 all out in only 30 overs.

In response, Slater's accurate and inspirational bowling resulted in five wickets and reduced Cutthorpe to 44 for 7.

But frustratingly steady rain then made an already damp surface unplayable.

But Buxton were able to close to within 12 points of league leaders Hollinsend Methodists who they play on Saturday in a vital clash.

Buxton's Second team lead their league but sadly their game at Ambergate was cancelled due to a waterlogged pitch.

But a good performance on Saturday away at Quarndon can put the team in pole position going into the final weekend.

Buxton's Third team travelled to Langley Mill and an experienced home side progressed easily to 202 for 7 off their 40 overs.

Joe Bagshaw, Chris Hazelhurst and Noah McChahill shared the wickets.In reply, junior Bagshaw showed his talent with an outstanding 73 including 10 4s, enabling Buxton to end on 132 for 6.
