After just over six weeks of practice and two matches Buxton Ladies Cricket Team recorded their first ever victory.

Buxton took two teams over to the mini festival in Hayfield. In the first match they were beaten by an experienced New Mills side, despite a 17 run stand by Nicola Grainger and Katy Pownall and two wickets for Lou Whitehouse.

The other Buxton team then played Hayfield. Strong all round performances from the girls saw them eclipse the hosts by 15 runs.

On Saturday the second team lost a gripping top of the table clash with Belper Meadows II.

Batting first Buxton collapsed to 28 for 6 but a fine fightback was headed by Nick Allen with 54 not out, including 6 fours, and Scott Mackenzie 43 with five fours.

Buxton made a great fist of their defence with opener Peter Brookes being dismissed first ball by Nick Allen

Belper were then reduced to 8/2 when James Fowler was caught and bowled by Allen.

That became 27/3 when Matt Wheatcroft was trapped LBW by Dave Bellfield.

Robert Allen was dismissed by Allen to leave Belper floundering on 27/4, before Belper began to fightback.

Bellfield removed Steve Fisher for 24 as Belper made it to 80/5.

They had no more scares after that with Dec Stone (45*) and Dave Boyes (42*) guiding them to the win they needed to secure the title.

The first team lost away at Holmewood in a low scoring match.

Fran Slater was again in top form with figures of 3 for 23 from a ten over spell.

There was excellent support from Tom Griffin, who picked up 2 for 36 in a tight ten over spell as Holmewood struggled to 142/7 off their 40 overs.

In the end it was more than enough to seal a 69 run after Buxton collapsed to 73 all out.

Harry Griffin made 28 but received little support with Andrew Slater (14) and Will Hebditch (13) the only other players to make double figures.

But the third team were involved in an exciting finish on Sunday at the Park.

Hundall II finished on 156 for 6 and Buxton were well in contention but a failure to run singles saw them fall short by two runs in the final over.
