It’s been another good day for Essex so far and Mark Pettini in particular on the second morning of the LV County Championship Division Two match against Derbyshire at Derby.

Pettini made an unbeaten 117 before skipper James Foster declared on 464 for 7 after he was out for 60 caught off the bowling of Wayne Madsen who was forced to bring himself into the attack because of injuries to seamers Tony Palladino and Shiv Thakor.

Against a depleted attack, Pettini and Foster took their seventh wicket stand to 120 with Pettini celebrating his second century in five innings since he was recalled to the championship side after an absence of a year.

Foster passed 11,000 championship runs during his half-century and at lunch, Derbyshire were 10 without loss needing 315 to avoid the follow-on.
