Buxton finish runners up in Cricket’s Champions of Champions

Buxton under-11s’ Kwik Cricket team fell to a first defeat in what has been a hugely successful season.

Having been crowned league champions of the Dales Section of the Notts & Derbyshire Borders Youth League, Buxton advanced to the Champions of Champions Tournament in Belper competing against champions from surrounding districts.

They dominated their quarter-final against Heanor CC from start to finish winning by 40 runs with Luke Moss outstanding in the field and Otilie McCahill conceding no runs off the bat in her bowling.

The semi-final versus Marehay CC was a much closer affair.

Buxton batted first posting a respectable 166-1 with Charlie Edwards and Adam Munden top-scoring with 29 each.

Marehay appeared up to the challenge scoring half a dozen sixes in the first three overs.

However, two wickets apiece from Leon Brower and Tom Wager, including an excellent catch from Noah McCahill and Frankie Heathcote uprooting the middle stump with the final delivery of the innings, resulted in Buxton winning by 25 runs.

In the final, Buxton faced a very strong Denby team.

Denby batted first and posted a massive 176 including 13 boundaries.

Buxton found scoring runs more difficult but still found themselves in contention going into the final deliveries of the final over, but unfortunately fell short in a nail-biting finish.
