Cricket: Holders handed stern test in first round draw

Tintwistle CC will begin their defence of the Bissenden Cup with a home tie against Mottram.

The holders were drawn at home in one of six first round ties in the PS Derbyshire and Cheshire League’s flagship competition.

Tintwistle defeated fellow Division One side Hawk Green in last year’s final in what was a narrow victory.

Bissenden Cup first round ties: Hayfield v Hazel Grove; Whaley Bridge v High Lane; Hollingworth v Hadfield; Dove Holes v Birch Vale; Tintwistle v Mottram; Compstall v Buxworth.

(Ties to be played May 4 or failing that, May 18.)

The draw was made at the PS Derbyshire & Cheshire League’s recent annual meeting.

The draw for the Hawke Trophy was also made on the night, with a straight reverse of the Bissenden Cup ties , meaning that the six home sides will be away and vice versa.

2013 winners Hawk Green, who overcame Old Glossop, were given a bye and will therefore start their defence at the last-16 stage.

The ten teams to receive byes in both trophies are: New Mills, Broadbottom, Woodley, Old Glossop, Newton, Charlesworth, Dinting, Hawk Green, Buxton and Chapel.
