Derbyshire CCC’s seconds have provisionally pencilled in two friendly Twenty20 matches to be staged at Glossop’s North Road ground.

The county’s second side will face Durham and Lancashire on Monday May 5 and Tuesday May 6 respectively.

Fixtures are subject to change.

Meanwhile, Elite Performance Director Graeme Welch says he has been pleased with the squad’s work ethic as preparations for the new campaign continue.

Last week saw the introduction of competitive batting and bowling sessions inside the cricket hall at the County Ground as the squad practice in anticipation of the new season.

Elite Performance Coach John Sadler has also spent his first week with the squad, observing and adding his input during training sessions.

Welch said: “John Sadler has come in this week. He knows a few of the lads but not in a coaching capacity so he is just observing and trying to get to know them,” Welch said.

“This week training has moved more into game situations so we’ve had open nets with the bowlers and batters competing against each other. The lads are in good shape.”
