BUXTON 1st XI dropped to the foot of the Peak Sports Derbyshire & Cheshire League Division One table as they slumped to their fifth league defeat of the season at lowly Compstall on Saturday.
Winning the toss and electing to bat first, Compstall openers S Jackson and G Hall put on a stand of 71, before the former was bowled by Jonny Marsden (2-51) for 33.
Skipper P Needham (20) joined Hall and put on 80 for the second wicket, a stand that was broken by Scott Mackenzie (4-61).
Hall rode his luck and went on to make 79 as Compstall reached 212-7 in their allotted 45 overs.
In reply, father and son duo Bob and Ben Marsden put on 59 for the first wicket before the senior Marsden was caught for 44, followed shortly afterwards by Ben for 22.
Wickets continued to fall regularly throughout the Buxton innings and the visitors were eventually dismissed for 145, despite a belligerent 29 from skipper Iain Betts.
Buxton need to start winning games quickly.
This Saturday, reigning champions Hawk Green are the visitors to The Park. Buxton then travel to High Lane on Sunday in the second round of the Bissenden Cup.
