Charlie Marriott wins at Buxton Raceway

Buxton Raceway ran the British Championship for the Open Rods at the Buxton to Leek Road circuit on 14th August where a huge crowd was in attendance.

The winner of the race was Buxton lad Charlie Marriott. Marriott from the Marriott Autos garage on Leek road, was delighted on his win and got a big cheer from the crowd.

Marriott said: “I didnt get too good a start where Rob Booth in the 84 car just got ahead at the green, but after a couple of laps my car had the edge on the corners and I was able to pass him and then lead to the end.

“I am really happy with my win which is the first major championship I have won in the formula, many thanks to all of my sponsors and my family, its fantastic having a major win at my local track.”

The race had around 30 contenders in it and, around half way, it was starting to get tricky for the front runners as they were then catching up back markers and having to pick the best way through to stay ahead.

Buxton Raceway promoter Matt Watson said: “The racing in this class has been superb today with a brilliant turn out of competitors, many from the local area.

“I am really happy for Charlie on his win, his Dad raced the top class National Hot Rods and this win for Charlie will have made his dad Ken very proud.

“The weather was superb and the crowd was massive, everything just added up to make it an excellent day for all.”
