Chapel-en-le-Frith CC denied visiting Stalybridge St Pauls the chance to go top of the Derbyshire & Cheshire League Third Division with a fine eight-wicket win on Saturday.
With Nick Smith and Joe Jackson claiming three wickets each, plus two apiece for Keith Hallam and Mark Wagstaffe, Chapel had second-placed Stalybridge all out for just 84 runs in 28.1 overs.
Jack Gyte and Andrew Hibbert then steered them comfortably home to victory and a 19-point haul.
Stalybridge had just 16 on the board when they lost opener Richard Wilde, fellow opener Richard Wright top-scoring with 23.
Wright’s total included a six and three fours
But it was a steady procession back to the pavilion with only Joe Robinson, and then late resistance from James Beswick and Gary Sandiford, seeing any other players in double figures, all reaching 10, with Robinson hitting a six.
Nick Smith polished off the tail with impressive figures of 3-1 off 2.1 overs.
Jackson’s eight overs produced 3-3 while Keith Hallam and Mark Wagstaffe ended with 2-23 and 2-22 respectively.
Chapel then reached a match-winning 88-2 in 20.5 overs.
They had an early setback when Toby Emmett was caught leg before on seven with the score at 13.
But Gyte (30 not out) and Hibbert (42) took control with Maurice Barber taking the two wickets to fall for 23 runs.
With table-topping Birch Vale & Thorsett losing a high-scoring thriller at Hollingworth, it was an opportunity missed to take top spot for Stalybridge.
