Carnival Cup match postponed

A pre-season soccer match to help kick off Buxton Carnival has been postponed.

July 13 was due to see the kick off at the Silverlands of the second playing of the Buxton Carnival Cup, when teams from the Buxton area are invited by the Buxton Wells Dressing committee to take part in a pre-season cup competition.

Buxton Town was to defend the trophy against Cote Heath FC and the Blazing Rag FC from the Hope Valley league, and a select Buxton XI managed by Pete Machin whose players will all be Buxton based.

But organisers say there is a problem with the re-seeding of the pitch, and are now looking at a provisional date of October 6 for the match.

The inaugural competition was a huge success last July, due mainly to the then organiser Andy Tooz, when a sum just short of £400 was raised towards the cost of running the Buxton Wells Dressing Week.

Admission will be free on when the game is eventually played, but all people attending will be asked to donate as generously as possible.
