An AMAZING bowling performance by Chapel-en-le-Frith’s John Theyer was the highlight of last weekend’s fixtures in the Peak Sports Derbyshire & Cheshire League.
The medium pace bowler took all ten Compstall wickets during their 2nd XI game, clean-bowling six of his victims as Compstall were all out for an embarrassing total of 26 runs.
Theyer, who in the past has also represented Buxworth, eventually finished with bowling figures of nine overs, four maidens, ten wickets for just five runs.
He said: “It was just one of those things. You never expect to take all ten wickets in an innings, but when I got to eight I thought perhaps now was my chance.”
League spokesman Stuart Needham said: “The statisticians will be scrambling to the archives to see if this feat has been achieved before in the league.
“I am reliably informed that Ian Chipchase did this many years ago, but this is a record that will not be broken, and I congratulate John.”
