Buxton juniors impress during final race

Buxton AC's junior section impressed during the last race in the Manchester Area Cross Country Leagues.

Leaving snowing Buxton behind, the Stocpkport venue proved to be chilly and muddy with an impressive hilly section through the woods.

The U13’s team were up first with Harrison Turner coming in 32nd and Caleb Winfield 47th in the boys competition.

The girls team of Amy Whelan and Abbie Fryer-Winder came in 25th and 48th respectively.

Heather Wilshaw ran in the U15’s coming in an impressive 23rd and Luke Farrant consolidating his position in the league with a solid 13th in the U17’s.

This was Buxton’s first season in the Manchester League and it has proved popular with 15 Buxton Juniors taking part.

To complete the series the juniors needed to compete in at least four of the five races - a challenge which five hardy juniors managed to achieve.

Leading the team in the final series was Luke Farrant finishing ninth overall in the U17 category,

Harrison Turner completed the U13 League in 14th position with team mate Caleb Winfield in 32nd place.

In the U15’s series Heather Wilshaw completed in 20th place and Luke Mamzcur in 25th.

Buxton Juniors team manager Rachel Dowle said: “The MACCL has been a valuable learning experience for our budding cross country stars.

“The competition has been fierce and all of the juniors have progressed significantly - building strength and resilience as well as consolidating the individuals into a real team - each supporting their team mates within an atmosphere of fun and friendship. We will definitely be back next year.”

Also over the weekend Buxton hardy junior park runners had a chilly outing to Whaley Bridge.

Heather Wilshaw had a great run to finish third overall.

Rachel Cudahy smashed her personal best to come in sixth girl narrowly beating her sister Rebecca who came in ninth girl.
