Buxton AC Juniors post good times at Fell Championships

Buxton AC’s junior contingent impressed in the picturesque setting of Errwood Hall in the Goyt Valley, in the first race in the English Juniors Fell Championships.

Over 200 youngsters took part on a gruelling course that took the oldest all the way to Shining Tor.

Weather conditions added another challenge with heavy showers and gusting winds but the 14-strong group of Buxton Athletics Club team took it all in their stride.

Lauren Wilshaw and Jamie Barlow, in his first ever fell race, represented the team in the under-10s race.

Heather Wilshaw and Abbie Fryer-Winder raced in the under-12s coming eighth and 14th respectively.

Buxton AC had six runners in the under-14s race with Alex Ediker leading a closely packed team home in fourth.

He was followed by teammates Finn Moffatt in sixth, Elliot Meylan in eighth, Will Tighe in ninth, Jacob Buckley in 12th, Amelia Newbould in 14th and Luke Mamczur who came home in 18th.

In the under-16s category, Helen Thornhill came home in 11th and in the under-18s Alfie Bailey crossed the line in 13th place, shortly followed by David Fryer-Winder in 14th.

The Buxton AC team now stand eighth out of 32 teams in the English Fell Championships.

There are five races remaining.

This years Lad’s Leap Fell race was an English Championship and Derbyshire Fell Championships race.

George Smedley-Castle came fifth which qualifies him to represent Derbyshire in the under-18’s team at the Inter Counties Fell Championships Wales next month.
