Edinburgh Dog and Cat Home is hosting a virtual pet show - here’s how to enter

With lockdown keeping us all indoors, we are spending a lot more time with our furry friends than ever before, and our social feeds are filled to the brim with cute pets from across the world.

So, if your beloved cat or dog has been keeping you entertained during these isolating times, you’ll now be able to give them the praise they deserve, by entering them into Edinburgh Dog and Cat Home’s (EDCH) new virtual pet show.

The animal charity and rehoming centre created this unique online event after its annual cat and dog shows were cancelled.

Here’s everything you need to know about the competition, and how you - and your pet - can get involved.

When is the online show?

The lead up to the show will feature on the Edinburgh Dog and Cat’s home Facebook Page, where all of the photo entries will be showcased.

You can get involved even if you haven't entered, by voting for your favourite picture.

The live judging will then take place on Friday 15 May 2020, also hosted on the charity’s Facebook page, where Marc the Vet will make the final decisions.

What are the categories?

There are a total of 18 fun categories to choose from, including:

- Bonniest Lass- Handsomest Lad- Golden Oldie (for animals eight years old and up)- Best Dressed- Best Rescue- Purr-fect Pair/ Paw-fect Pair- Most like their owner- Cheekiest Co-worker- Cosiest Canine/Cat

Dogs and cats will compete separately for each title.

What is the prize?

The winner of each category will be awarded a virtual certificate. They will also be named on the animal home’s Facebook page, e-newsletter and in the summer edition of the EDCH newspaper, the Taily Mail.

The winners from each category will also be entered into a draw.

From this draw, two overall winners (one dog and one cat entrant) will then be chosen to win a jigsaw featuring the photo of their treasured pet.

How much does it cost to take part?

Entry is £2, which acts as a donation to EDCH, and this entrance fee allows you to enter as many categories as you wish.

Is the show open to any kind of pet?

The show is only open to dogs and cats. You also must own the dog or cat, or have permission to enter them into the competition.

How can I enter?

First you’ll need to dig out your favourite picture of your furry friends, then head over to the online application form here and select which categories you would like to enter.

Upload your photo to the Edinburgh Dog and Cat’s Home dropbox page, which will be sent to you once you have paid the entry fee.

About Edinburgh Dog and Cat Home

This charity has been welcoming lost or abandoned pets from all corners of Edinburgh and the Lothians since 1883.

The shelter was founded by citizens, with a strong love of animals, and motivation to alleviate the plight of strays roaming the streets of Edinburgh at the time.

The Home continues to rescue, reunite and rehome dogs and cats across the city and the Lothians, with a vision to give unwanted and mistreated animals a voice and a second chance for a happy home.
