At a packed meeting of Buxton Labour Party last week, the Chair, Roger Cooper welcomed the many new members and supporters who have joined recently. Following the landslide election of Jeremy Corbyn as the new Labour Party leader, the branch membership has more than doubled in number to almost 300. In addition, another 100 have registered their support for the aims of the Labour Party. There was overwhelming agreement that, in spite of differences of approach, members and friends would work together in mutual respect and co-operation to fight the austerity policies of the Conservative government which are causing so much pain to the poor, the sick and disabled. A lengthy and lively discussion considered how to move towards a fairer and more equal society. Participants highlighted that People’s Quantitative Easing was now considered a mainstream economic policy, supported by serious economists, the International Monetary Fund and even the Telegraph’s economics correspondent. Buxton Branch has a delegate at the Labour Party conference next week and will be receiving feedback at the next branch meeting to be held on Saturday October 17. Anyone wanting to join should call 01298 24779.
