A Birch Vale student has earned a place at a summer school held at Yale, one of America’s most prestigious universities.

Iain Barr, 17, who studies at Cheadle & Marple Sixth Form College, said: “I’m thrilled and delighted that I’ve actually been given this opportunity and I intend to make the most of it.”

Currently studying A Levels in English Literature, German, History and Maths, his ultimate ambition is to become a lawyer.

Iain will also be attending the Oxford Summer School which will provide an opportunity for him to compare and weigh up his options for studying at degree level in the UK or US.

Geoff Hammond, Careers and Guidance Adviser at the college, said: “Clearly this is a fantastic opportunity for Iain and his acceptance onto such a competitive and highly sought-after summer school is a reward for all the hard work that he has put into his school and college work.”

Iain is a member of the college’s Student Union as Head Representative for year one and is currently launching a College newspaper. He was part of a team who represented the college at the Model United Nations Conference in Birmingham.
