Serious safety concerns have been raised about drivers contravening road signs and markings, leading to vehicles travelling the wrong way up the A6 slip road.

The matter was raised during a meeting with local residents on Monday, prompting police to increase vehicle patrols around the bypass area.

A spokesperson for the Chapel and Chinley Safer Neighbourhood Team said: “Anyone found to be flouting safety and warning signs will be spoken to and dealt with appropriately.”

The meeting, held on Monday, identified other local policing priorities for the coming months, such as anti-social behaviour involving large groups, particularly around the Memorial Park.

High-visibility patrols will be used to tackle the problem, working alongside local councillors and members of other partner agencies.
