World Champion Lizzie Armitstead crowned winner of Derbyshire stage of Aviva Women's Tour

Thousands of spectators were treated to an international cycle racing spectacle as the Aviva Women's Tour rolled out across Derbyshire, today, Friday, June 17.

The five-day world tour road race which started on Wednesday included a day-long 106.9km Stage 3 today from Ashbourne to Chesterfield including the Peak District National Park, Buxton and Matlock.

Crowds lined the streets right across the county as Stage 3 finished in Chesterfield Market Place this afternoon to cheers of approval.

Lizzie Armitstead was crowned Stage 3 race winner and overall leader and yellow jersey holder.

The overall race started with Stage 1 on June 15, from Southwold to Norwich, and with Stage 2, on June 16, from Atherstone to Stratford-upon-Avon, followed by today’s wonderful Derbyshire Stage 3 which posed some tough hilly challenges.

Stage 4, is on Saturday, June 18, is from Nottingham to Stoke-on-Trent, and includes southern Derbyshire and the Peak District, before the final Stage 5, on Sunday, June 19, from Northampton to Kettering.
