A TALENTED young musician from Chapel-en-le-Frith has earned the title of Principal Oboe for the National Youth Orchestra and a place in the second round of the BBC Young Musician of the Year.

Rees Webster, 16, a student at Manchester Grammar School, said: “The opportunities music has brought me have been fabulous. I’ve travelled to Spain and Italy. The highlight last year was a tour to Finland, performing Poulenc’s Trio for Oboe, Bassoon and Piano.’

His talent is assisted by lessons each week at the Royal Northern College of Music with Jennifer Galloway, Principal Oboe with BBC Philharmonic.

Rees regularly gets the chance to take to the stage to demonstrate his talents on the oboe and will soon take his regular place at the Proms in the Royal Albert Hall.

“It’s such an amazing place to perform; I feel so honoured to be there. But I really enjoy playing with my local youth orchestra in Derbyshire. The Conductor, Peter Start, is brilliant to work under,” said Rees.
