A partnership working with the Friends of Pavilion Gardens has enabled High Peak Borough Council to secure £50,000 from the SITA Trust to add to the £20,000 it had earmarked for the improvement scheme.

The popular play area, which was installed in 2000 as part of the Heritage Lottery funded restoration of the Gardens, is ready for modernisation.

The play area will be closed for around five weeks whilst the work to remove the existing play equipment and safety surfacing takes place. It will then be replaced with more contemporary, challenging and accessible equipment and new surfacing.

Visitors to the Pavilion Gardens are advised that there will be some disruption around the play area and its approaches whilst the work is carried out.

Keith Parker, head of operational Services at the council, said: “This project is an excellent example of partnership working and I’d like to thank the Friends of Pavilion Gardens for the work they have done to help bring this project to a successful conclusion.

“We are all pleased that work is now starting and in a few weeks we will have a fun play space for young children to enjoy. In the meantime, we’d like to thank people in advance for their patience and understanding whilst the work is carried out.”

Pete Sessions of SITA Trust said: “The new play equipment will provide fun and safe play opportunities for the many visitors to the Pavilion Gardens.
