Woman sentenced after badger killing

Laura Smith, 25, of Hartington, has been convicted of willfully killing a badger, having pleaded guilty to the offence at Chesterfield Magistrates’ Court on Wednesday, April 11.

The judge sentenced her to 12 weeks in prison suspended for 12 months.

PC Shaw from Derbyshire Rural Crime Team said: “We will continue to target those who commit offences against wildlife.

“This is a different dead badger from the that was found in a snare in Hayfield earlier this week.”
