Chesterfield magistrates’ court heard on Wednesday, July 6, how Sharon Chapman, 44, of Arundel Close, Chesterfield, punched her partner Carol Chapman four or five times while they were in the Sevens Bar, on Stephenson Place.

Prosecuting solicitor Sarah Haslam said: “A call was made to police that a female was kicking off and had hit her partner and her partner was bleeding. The manager of the bar saw the defendant stand up and punch her partner four or five times to the face as the complainant tried to block the punches. The manager said he shouted at the defendant and she threw another punch which missed and he grabbed her arms and removed her from the pub.”

Ms Haslam added that the assistant manager confirmed that he had seen four punches thrown and the complainant had been left bleeding from the nose.

Sharon Chapman was arrested and taken to the police station but made no comment during an interview.

She later pleaded guilty to the assault which happened on June 14. The court heard how the victim never supported the prosecution but a case was compiled from bar staff statements and from CCTV footage.

Defence solicitor Julie Page said: “They are in an ordinary, happy and loving relationship. They had gone to town and gone for a drink but Sharon Chapman drank more than she should and there was an argument, she lost her temper and she struck her partner.”

Magistrates fined Sharon Chapman £120 and she must pay £85 costs and a £30 victim surcharge. She was also banned from the Sevens Bar for a year.
