Whaley Bridge all set for its big day

FINAL preparations are underway for this weekend’s Whaley Bridge Rose Queen Festival parade.

On Saturday (June 30), the annual parade will wind its way through the town, starting from the canal basin at 2pm.

Competition entry forms for floats and decorated lamp-posts are available from Whaley Bridge Library, Footsteps or online at www.whaleyrosequeen.co.uk.

The Whaley Waltz Fell Race, a 5.75-mile race which starts from the centre of Whaley Bridge, climbs 900ft to Windgather Rocks and ends after crossing the Goyt river, will also take place on June 30. The race starts at 2.15pm and more details are available at www.goytvalleystriders.org.uk.

On Sunday July 1, a church service will take place at Holy Trinity Church at 10.30am, and July 4 is the annual Rose Queen pet show at Whaley Bridge Bowling Club from 6.30pm to 10pm.
