Snow will bring travel misery

WEATHER experts are predicting up to 10cm of snow could blanket parts of Derbyshire later today as the big freeze tightens its grip.

Derbyshire County Council gritters took to the county’s roads this morning after the Met Office issued a severe weather warning for snow for the East Midlands, which has suffered days of sub-zero temperatures.

The snow could cause widespread travel misery and commuters are being urged to check the weather forecast and traffic updates before making their journey.

This morning, Chesterfield FC said the club’s away game at Carlisle United FC will go ahead following a pitch inspection.

A Met Office spokesman said the wintry weather will be replaced by dry and frosty weather overnight into Sunday with ice expected to be an additional hazard in many areas tomorrow.

If you have any stories or take any pictures of the snow, we would like to hear from you for a possible story for next week’s paper. Post here, email [email protected] or get in touch via Facebook or Twitter.
