On Monday, the Met Office issued a 'danger to life' amber warning and yellow warning for Buxton, Glossop and Chesterfield, with heavy and persistent rain expected especially across the Peak District.

In a statement, the forecasters said that Storm Christoph will bring multiple hazards to the UK this week, which started off with heavy rain that will lead to flooding in some areas.

The amber warning for rain was issued for parts of northern, central and eastern England while separate yellow warnings for rain cover Northern Ireland, Wales, southern Scotland and the rest of England.

Within the Amber warning area rainfall accumulations could reach up to 200mm in parts of the southern Pennines and northern Peak District, 40-70mm could be seen more widely.

Chief Meteorologist Dan Suri said some locations could see over 100mm of rain falling through the course just a couple of days with up to 200mm possible over higher ground.

“These amounts of rainfall along with snow melt present a real threat of flooding and people should keep a close eye on flood warnings from the Environment Agency,” she said in a statement.

The Met Office also said that the day in the East Midlands will start off cloudy, windy and mild with the spells of rain but it will turn heavy and persistent, with a maximum temperature of 11°C.

Tonight, further spells of heavy rain are likely to occur overnight with a minimum temperature of 9°C.

Derbyshire police have also urged residents to sign up for flood alerts so they can be contacted if they are at risk of flooding.
