While the prolonged heavy rain brought no major devastation, several homes and businesses were flooded on Thursday, with parts of Matlock town centre impassable due to standing water.

In Bakewell, a motorist stranded in flood water managed to climb on top of his car and paddle to safety. Homes in Wye Bank were also hit by flooding.
A Derbyshire County Council spokesperson said: “Only travel if your journey is essential and please don't be tempted to drive through floodwater.
"As little as 30cm of water can float a car. Driving through floodwater can also cause flooding to properties next to the road.”
Water levels on the River Derwent at Matlock have fallen below flood levels.
