The National Police Chiefs' Council (NPCC) has issued this video guide for the public on how to survive the sort of attack which took place in Paris last month.

The four minute video gives guidance on how to react if there is an armed assault on your place of work or a public place.

Entitled 'Stay Safe' the information film runs through the various options in dealing with an attack, including running and hiding from the attackers, as well as informing the police that an assault is underway.

The current terrorism threat level for the UK is 'Severe', meaning an attack is 'highly likely'.

In the run-up to Christmas security is being beefed-up in the UK's major cities, including Sheffield, with extra armed police patrolling the streets to offer reassurance to the public as well as to act a deterrent to any would-be attackers.
